data-end=\"42\">2 &#8211; Karver Teams and Communication<\/strong><\/h3><h5 data-start=\"46\" data-end=\"307\">Many of you ask us who uses Karver equipment and who does not. Here is a clear overview on this topic, allowing us to proudly announce that we are present on <strong data-start=\"204\" data-end=\"225\">100% of the boats<\/strong>, with a presence ranging from <strong data-start=\"256\" data-end=\"270\">50% to 70%<\/strong> depending on the product families.<\/h5><h5 data-start=\"309\" data-end=\"600\">During this Vend\u00e9e Globe, you may have heard about issues with hooks, sails falling or being lost, or even broken deck hardware. It is rare for skippers or teams to explain why a piece of equipment has failed because, in reality, the causes are often multiple. This is what we will detail.<\/h5><h5 data-start=\"602\" data-end=\"865\">We deliberately do not publish a list of the issues encountered by different teams (across all brands). This information is exclusively shared with our IMOCA clients. However, when a technical issue is reported, it is essential to consider <strong data-start=\"842\" data-end=\"862\">four key factors<\/strong>:<\/h5><ol data-start=\"867\" data-end=\"1440\"><li data-start=\"867\" data-end=\"1008\"><h5>Some skippers experience issues but choose not to communicate about them to avoid giving a psychological advantage to their competitors.<\/h5><\/li><li data-start=\"1009\" data-end=\"1081\"><h5>Conversely, some problems may be exaggerated for strategic reasons.<\/h5><\/li><li data-start=\"1082\" data-end=\"1299\"><h5>Very generic terms are often used to avoid giving too many details. In most cases, these specifications focus primarily on working load requirements:<\/h5><ul data-start=\"307\" data-end=\"437\"><li data-start=\"307\" data-end=\"406\"><h5>12T for the J2 (the only permanently rigged headsail, integrating the structural forestay).<\/h5><\/li><li data-start=\"407\" data-end=\"437\"><h5>8T for headsail furling locks.<\/h5><\/li><\/ul><h5 data-start=\"439\" data-end=\"674\">Most teams aim for podium finishes. The term &#8220;fuse&#8221; implies that the product is designed to fail first\u2014which is not the case.<\/h5><div>\u00a0<\/div><h5 data-start=\"1464\" data-end=\"1503\">I<b>ncreasing Loads and Impacts<\/b><\/h5><h5 data-start=\"1504\" data-end=\"1604\">Looking at footage of the boats sailing, it&#8217;s clear that the forces on deck hardware have evolved.<\/h5><ul data-start=\"1605\" data-end=\"2042\"><li data-start=\"1605\" data-end=\"1697\"><h5>The latest IMOCA yachts fly 3 to 4 meters above the water before crashing down hard.<\/h5><\/li><li data-start=\"1698\" data-end=\"1821\"><h5>Skippers now wear noise-canceling helmets and use shock-absorbing cushions to withstand vibrations and impacts.<\/h5><\/li><li data-start=\"1822\" data-end=\"2042\"><h5>The level of competition is intense, leading to race behaviors previously seen only in short-course racing, such as:<span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 1.25rem; background-color: transparent;\">Delaying reefing maneuvers, u<\/span><span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 1.25rem; background-color: transparent;\">sing sails beyond their intended wind range<\/span><\/h5><\/li><\/ul><h5 data-start=\"2044\" data-end=\"2117\">Skippers now maneuver from better-protected cockpits, resulting in: r<span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 1.25rem; background-color: transparent;\">educed sensory feedback\u2014they see, hear, and feel less of what\u2019s happening on deck.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 1.25rem; background-color: transparent;\">Flying stays (removable forestays) used for both mast security and quicker furling\/unfurling. As designers, we can increase the size of our components, but as suppliers for a high-performance racing sport, we must also ensure ultra-efficient products.<\/h5><h5 data-start=\"780\" data-end=\"959\">Ultimately, each team must balance weight and durability\u2014just like in Formula 1, where faster tires wear out more quickly.
